"Older chests reveal themselves
Like a crack in a wall
Starting small, and grow in time
And we always seem to need the help
Of someone else
To mend that shelf
Too many books
Read me your favorite line
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Like time, there's always time
On my mind
So pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time
Time, there's always time
On my mind
Pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time"
it is remarkable how a song or album can bring me back to a period of time in my life, the same way scents remind me of people or places. O is playing right now at octane and memories of junior year are flooding my thoughts. wrights mill road, a trip to athens to visit an old friend, driving around auburn, which was one of my favorite past times there, before gas prices were outrageous, of course.
other special songs:
anything cat stevens and paul mccartney and wings remind me of my parents
"come on ilene" : not sure if thats the name of it but, it came on the radio driving through california, i believe on our way to vegas. it was the only song we could all agree on.
"la cienega smiles": lele
"life is a highway": jake used to sing it at the top of his lungs when he was like five.
"hey jude" : my mom and this little four year old from my summer doing preschool camp. he was obsessed with paul mccartney and he knew every single word to hey jude.
bjork, specifically the "debut" album reminds me of lesley when we were younger and we had this wall in our room that we painted a huge rainbow on and got all of our friends to sign it.
"i summon you" : last summer.
"undone(the sweater song)": a sixth grade lock in.
"do you realize": those little breaks on the back porch of crayola.
smell is possibly the most powerful of the five senses, maybe even more so than music. here is a list of scents that remind me of precious people or places.
musk cologne: worn by my lynndaddy for as long as i can remember
downey fabric softener: hanna and lil tumlin
unknown goodness: the kiefer house
chanel: my mom
the mixture of gasoline and air from a blower (the kind for leaves and such): dad, because of the many times he used to chase me around the yard with them.
cookin bacon: grammy
dove shampoo: dianne
a weird, somewhat moldy sock smell: biscuet's car. sorry, but i can't help it.
vanilla: meredith, she had this fantastic sparkly lotion that made your hands feel super soft.
ckone: eighth grade, i used to carry it in my back pocket to disguise the cigarette smell when we would sneak off to smoke.
salt water: taking trips every summer to seaside. we would roll our windows down at the first sight of a palm tree to get a good wiff.
cheese balls: probably my eighth birthday party. we ate cheese balls and traded NKOTB cards.
chocolate cake: billie, because she made one like every other day.
i would love to hear about some of your nostalgic songs, smells, or whatever.
